Tributes after death of Jim Stynes

The sports community is in mourning in both Ireland and Australia following the passing away of former Aussie Rules star Jim Stynes yesterday.

The 45 year old who had been battling cancer for the last 3 years  died surrounded by family members , his wife Sam released a statement afterwards saying "he was pain free, dignified and peaceful.

Stynes won an All Ireland minor title with Dublin in 1984 before joining Melbourne Demons , in 1991 he became the only player from outside Australia to win the Brownlow medal.

The Ballyboden Saint Enda’s clubman also served as the clubs President and worked with mental health charity the Reach foundation.
