Trap satisfied with performance despite Greek loss

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni was happy with his side performance last night despite losing 1-0 to Greece at the Aviva in their last International of 2012.

Trapattoni gave Shane Long only his second start in 5 years while Wes Hoolahan made his second appearance in an Ireland jersey as a second half sub.

Ireland’s next game is a friendly with Poland at the Aviva in February and then they go to Sweden in March in the World Cup qualifiers.

MeanwhileSweden beat England 4-2 in Stockholm last night thanks to four goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The fourth was a spectacular 30-yard overhead kick in injury time.

Meanwhile Austria lost 3-0 to the Ivory Coast while Germany were held to a scoreless draw in Holland.

Elsewhere, Scotland won 2-1 away to Luxembourg and in the World Cup qualifiers Northern Ireland drew 1-1 at home to Azerbaijan.

David Healy scored in the sixth minute of injury time to rescue a point for Michael O’Neill’s side.
