Three of the eight places in the quarter-finals of the TUS Clare senior football championship are filled after the second round ties.
Holders Cratloe, Ennistymon and Miltown are all qualified from Group Three, after Cratloe and Ennistymon played out a draw in Cusack Park.
Miltown’s win over Doonbeg in Group Three means the Magpies are now destined for a relegation battle with no points from their opening two games.
The seeded positions will be decided in the final round with Miltown set to take on neighbours Ennistymon, and Miltown manager Martin Guerin says they will look to build on momentum for that tie.
In Group Two, things are a little less clear cut with all four teams still in contention to remain in the championship.
St Joseph’s Doora Barefield are in pole position for top spot after a gritty two point win over Corofin; a result which leaves the North Clare side on the bottom of the standings.
Parish boss Donagh Vaughan says they know they have continue improving before taking on Kildysart in the final round.
St Breckan’s bounced back to winning ways as they hit four goals in a dominant win over Kildysart, but will need to get a result against neighbours Corofin in the final round to guarantee their progression, while Kildysart will also need to get something from their game against St Joseph’s to give themselves a chance of avoiding the playoff round.
Group One looks to be all but decided, with Eire Óg powering past Kilmihil to pick up their second win which leaves them top of the standings ahead of their final round tie with Lissycasey.
Kilmurry Ibrickane bounced back to winning ways with a three point win over Lissycasey, thanks in part to a Keelan Sexton penalty.
A win for the Bricks in the final round against Kilmihil would be enough to guarantee them a top two finish and passage straight through to the quarter-finals, but manager David Egan says being more clinical in front of goal is something they will have to target if that is to be achieved.
