It’s being reported that Grainne Murphy is considering her future in the sport following the non renewal of contract of her coach Ronald Claes.
According to the Irish Examiner, Swim Ireland who paid two thirds of his contract did not inform Murphy about their decision.
The paper suggests the 19 year old from Wexford’s plans were also thrown into disarray with the news that the high performance centre in the University of Limerick where she had been training as well as the current structure of Irish swimming are under review.
Murphy finished 10 seconds off her personal best in the 400 metres freestyle at the Olympics but her preparations for the event had been severely hampered by glandular fever.
The South East athlete withdrew from the 800 metres but the article reports that she was told her future funding could be affected if she did not participate.
