It was an afternoon that saw the Banner make the most of the new rules, with Eoin Cleary (2) and Emmet McMahon landing long range efforts from outside the arc to register two point scores.

Peter Keane’s side were always in control of the contest, and led 0-13 to 0-4 at the break with five different scorers on the board.

Leitrim did enjoy their best period of the game in the third quarter, but a brilliant goal from Ikem Igweru quelled any faint hopes of a comeback as he powered to the net to send Clare 1-14 to 0-7 ahead at the turn of the final quarter.

Alan Sweeney raided for Clare’s second green flag after brilliant play from debutante Evan Cahill to ensure Clare also built up a healthy scoring difference on the league table.

Elsewhere in Division Three, Kildare had to rely on a late goal to eventually see off a stubborn challenge from Sligo to win by 1-16 to 0-13, Fermanagh edged their Ulster derby with Antrim by 2-16 to 3-12, while Offaly have midlands bragging rights after beating Laois by 2-19 to 1-17.
