Sixmilebridge manager Sean Stack says his side were primed for a massive battle in their opening round of the Clare senior hurling championship.

A 0-23 to 0-1-13 win over Newmarket saw them off to the perfect start, with eight different scorers contributing to their tally.

Up next for the Bridge is a showdown with fellow group toppers Feakle on Sunday afternoon, with the winners there putting themselves in pole position for passage to the next stage.

Stack says they got the test they were expecting from the neighbours

Meanwhile Clonlara manager Donal Madden felt his sides indiscipline was an issue in their opening round loss to Feakle.

A late Raymond Bane point eventually swung the contest for the East Clare side, with all of Shane McGrath’s tally of 1-11 coming from placed balls.

Madden says it is something for his side to address.
