Avenue Utd continued their great start to the season with victory over Shannon Hibs in an entertaining tie at the Riverside on Sunday morning. Avenue started well and opened the scoring when Mark Roche broke through on goal and was taken down for a penalty.

Roche dusted himself down and fired to the corner to put the visitors 1-0 in front. Avenue created chance after chance after this but Hibs keeper Damien Casey pulled off saves from Rory Brennen, Davy O’Halloran and Mark Roche to keep his side in the game.

The pressure finally paid off on 35 minutes when good play from Dylan Casey found O’Halloran out wide and he put in a glorious cross that was brilliantly finished by Roche to make it 2-0. It remained 2-0 at half time. Hibs got a life line on 55 minutes when a good ball in from the impressive Nathan Walsh was finished by Gary Leahy and it was game on.

Avenue restored their 2 goal advantage on 65 minutes when Eamon O’Reilly finished well from a corner. Hibs had a chance to cut the deficit but Leahy was off target when through on goal. Avenue ensured their would be no way back for the Shannon side on 80 minutes when Roche completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Casey was fouled in the area.
21 goals in 4 games sees Avenue return to the top of the table. Man of the match Mark Roche.

Shannon Olympic 2-4 Shannon Town A

Shannon Olympic hosted their near neighbors Shannon Town in the first of the local derbies for the new season. The town started the brighter of the 2 teams controlling long period of possession but only creating a few half chances. Olympic started to get into the game and took the lead from a smart finish from Ray Quigley on 25 minutes.

Olympic double their lead on 35 minutes with a fine header from Rob Clair. This had the Town manger scratching his head wondering how they were 2 down at halftime. Shannon Town started the second half like a train and pulled a goal back with a good finish by Darren Griffen just 3 minutes into the half.

Shannon Town begin to put the pressure on to get the equalizer but some good defending keep the Town at bay. Olympic had a great chance to restore their 2 goal advantage but were denied by a brilliant save from Darren Whelan.

This was a the wake up call that the Town needed and on 65 minutes Colin Scanlon scored the equalizer with a superb volley from a Rob Wall cross. On 75 minutes the Town took the lead when Scanlon slotted home a penalty after Kieran Hackett was fouled in the box. Shannon Town were reduced to 10 men on 82 minuets when Hackett was given a red card.
Olympic started to pile on the pressure to get the equalizer but the Town defense held firm. Scanlon completed his hat trick on 87 minutes when collecting the ball just inside his own half beating the last defender and brilliantly finishing past the advancing keeper Trevor O’Donnell. Man of the match Colin Scanlan closely followed by Gary O’Connell.

Bridge Utd continued their good start to the season with victory over Kilrush Rangers at Sixmilebridge on Sunday. Bridge were on the front foot from the start and Ethan Slater fired them in front inside the first minute. It was 2-0 to the home side on 19 minutes when Slater scored his second.

Jordan Downes scored for the fourth game in a row on 25 minutes to put daylight between the sides. It remained 3-0 at half time. Jason Whyte wrapped up the victory on 60 minutes with a fourth goal to leave it 4-0 at full time.

Sporting Ennistymon 4-2 Lifford A

A youthful Sporting Ennistymon side earned their first 3 points of the season with a hard earned 4-2 win over Lifford at Lahinch on Sunday. Sporting opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Michael O’Dwyer converted from the penalty spot following a handball.

Lifford responded immediately when Dean Coughlan got on the end of a John Allen long throw to head home. Sporting regained the lead following a quick counter attack when Darren McNamara finished well from close range. Once more Lifford grabbed an equalizer just before half time when Ruairi Norrby fired home from the edge of the box.

The second half started with both teams evenly matched but the reduction of the Ennis side to 10 men midway through the half saw Sporting take advantage with goals from Cathal McConigley and Joe Campbell to seal an important first victory of the season for the North Clare side. Man of the match Michael O’Dwyer.

Ennis Town came out on top in this well contested contest with Lifford B at Cassidy Park on Sunday. Elias Kunz put Ennis Town in front in the first half. Edward Killeen scored for Lifford in the second half to level the contest but Ion Lyons hit back with the winning goal for Ennis Town.

Moher Celtic kept alive their hopes of making the league cup final with a good victory over Mountshannon Celtic at Scariff on Sunday. Caelan O’Connor scored a hat trick for the visitors while Kevin Falvey, Brian Considine and Martin Garrihy also scored. John Scanlan scored for Mountshannon.

Moher Celtic B earned their first victory of the new season after putting in a good performance to defeat Bunratty Cratloe at Liscannor on Sunday. Man of the match Steven Murray scored a hat trick from midfield. Niall Canavan, Noel Sexton and Morgan Mescal also scored for the north Clare side.

Ben McSherry scored for Bunratty Cratloe who were missing a few regulars on the day.

Connolly Celtic qualfied for the final after an easy victory over an understrength Cloughleigh side at Lees Road on Sunday. Kevin Tubridy and Peter Langenkamp both scored a brace of goals in the first half to leave it 4-0 to the visitors at half time. Mikey Meehan and Robert Woodgate completed the scoring for Connolly in the second half.

Ennis Town 4-1 Tulla Utd B

Ennis Town began their season in fine style with a good win over Tulla Utd B at Lees Road on Saturday. Ennis Town started well and Tulla had their keeper to thank early on as he made some fine saves. Ennis Town took the lead on 30 minutes when Rossa McDermott scored. On 35 minutes Ennis were 2 up when Robbie Gormley scored with a header.

The second half started with Ennis Town continuing on the front foot. On 50 minutes Thomas Collins found Rossa McDermott who raced clear of the Tulla defence and he knocked the ball past the onrushing keeper to score his second and Towns third. Tulla got a goal back on 55 minutes when Emmet Lynch scored from the penalty spot.

Ennis Town had a few good chances before finally adding a fourth with a headed goal from Jashar Aliu who got onto a Darragh Whelan cross.

Shannon Town are in good position for a place in the final after a good victory over Kilkishen Celtic at Corrib Drive on Friday night. The Shannon Town goals came from Ken Buckley (2), Adrian Carew, Robbie Waller, Jamie Hodge and an own goal. Declan Reilly and Shane McInerney scored for Kilkishen.

Manus Celtic B 3-2 Inch Crusaders

Manus Celtic came out on top in a very entertaining match at Lees Road on Friday night and are now in pole position for a place in the final with one game left in the group. Both sides played good football throughout despite the poor weather conditions and a hat-trick from Manus striker Adrian McDonagh proved decisive.

Inch star player on the night was Padraig Talty who scored both goals.

Inch went in front on 27 minutes when a well worked free kick saw Barry Nealon put in a great ball across the goal which was well finished to the Manus net by Talty. Inch had chances to increase their lead but it was Manus who scored next when McDonagh got inside the Inch defence on 40 minutes and finished well to leave it 1-1 at the break.

McDonagh put Manus in front on 55 minutes after heading home from a well delivered corner. It was end to end to stuff for the remainder of the game and Manus looked sure of the win on 80 minutes when McDonagh broke through and fired low to the corner to put his side 3-1 in front.

Inch threw everything at Manus in the closing and got back in the game on 84 minutes with a great finish from Talty from the edge of the box. In the closing stages Sean O’Connor came closest to earning Inch a draw when he got on the end of a good ball in from Niall Gavin but dragged his shot just the wrong side of the post.
