Senior Footballers Return To Winning Ways With Victory Over Down

Clare have picked up their first away win in the National Football League since 2016. 
Colm Collins side battled to a 1-12 to 1-10 victory over Down in Pairc Esler in Newry.
They got the perfect start as Sean O’Donoghue hammered home a goal inside 32 seconds.
Eoin Cleary followed up with a point to leave the Banner 1-1 to 0-0 ahead.
Down hit the next four in a row to level the game but crucially never went in front.
David Tubridy, Eoin Cleary and Cian O’Dea responded to send the Banner three in front, before a goal for the home side leveled matters once more at 1-4 apiece.
Keelan Sexton, Eoin Cleary and Kieran Malone kept the scoreboard ticking and at the break, Clare went in 1-9 to 1-5 in front.
Down began the second half the brightest and struck the opening two points including one from a penalty.
Cleary and Eoghan Collins then found the range for Clare to keep the Mournemen at bay.
Two more points cut the gap once more for Down before Cleary’s free put three between them.
Down landed a late “45 but Sean O’Donoghue produced a brilliant leap to secure possssion from the kickout and seal the win.
