Saturdays Senior Championship Results

Five quarter final places in the Senior Hurling Championship Draw have been filled after today’s round 3 action.

In the most high profile casualty of today’s results, last years beaten finalists Cratloe have been knocked out of the championship after a late free saw Crusheen equalize with Cratloe at 16 points a piece.

That draw means Crusheen progress, along with Inagh/Kilnamona after they beat St. Josephs Doora/Barefield 2-18 to 1-10 in Clarecastle.

Doora/Barefield with losses in all three rounds now enter the relegation play-offs.

In the earlier games Sixmilebridge, Clonlara and Ballyea booked their places in the last eight.

Sixmilebridge overcame Clonlara 1-18 to 3-10 in group three meaning they top the group, and both sides progress as top two on the table.

Clooney/Quin put five goals past Clarecastle; it wasn’t enough to progress on scoring difference, but does save them from a relegation battle.

That ended 5-08 to 2-11, so it’s the Magpies facing the relegation playoffs from group three.

After today’s Senior B action, Ballyea are through to the knockout stages by virtue of their win over Scarriff and topping the group 2 table.

That finished 1-22 to 0-11, so Scarriff are now facing a relegation playoff.

Elsewhere Wolfe Tones beat Broadford 2-09 to 1-11.

The round three action continues tomorrow with the final three quarter final places to be filled.

Both group one games are throwing in at 1pm.

In Cusack Park, defending champions Newmarket on Fergus take on Tubber, while in Clarecastle Kilmaley and Tulla do battle.

In the Senior B action, O’Callaghans Mills and Eire Og go head to head for a place in the quarter finals in Sixmilebridge from 3 o’clock, while at the same time Smith O’Briens and Ruan clash in Shannon.

The draw for the Senior Hurling Championship Quarter finals takes place on Monday evening, with those games expected to progress next weekend.
