Sean Rynne was the Clare hero as his last gasp effort secured a 1-19 apiece draw with Limerick.

The home side on the Ennis Road looked to have eventually settled what was an arm wrestle of a contest as they went three points clear with the clock hitting injury time.

Rynne pointed either side of a Colm Cleary effort to share the spoils, which was a second draw in succession for Terence Fahy’s side.

Clare started brightly with Keith Smyth in fine form, and hit the first three points of the contest to set the tone.

Limerick grew into the contest but Adam Hogan’s supremacy in the full back line saw the Shannonsiders reduced to picking off long range efforts to keep in touch.

They did get in for a goal in their only meaningful attack of the opening period as Adam English crept in behind the defence before a deft finish to the net saw Limerick lead 1-9 to 0-9 at HT.

Clare dominated the third quarter of the contest, and Patrick Crotty’s brilliant goal saw the sides level at 1-11 each heading toward the closing quarter.

The concession of avoidable frees looked to have cost Clare, as Patrick O’Donovan routinely punished their indiscipline to swing the momentum back Limerick’s way.

Clare can thank custodian Aron Shanahan for keeping the game alive as the Tulla man produced an outstanding point blank save in the closing stages.

Buoyed by that, Clare fought to the bitter end with Rynne’s incredible score from out under the Mackey Stand sideline being the last action of a quality contest.
