Parish Secure Senior Status In Goal-Fest Victory Over Struggling Kilmihil

St.Joseph’s Doora-Barefiled will now contest a quarter final play off in the Clare Senior Football Championship following after a deserving four points victory over Kilmihil in Cusack Park, Ennis.

Kilmihil’s Ciarán Downes opened the scoring with a point after three minutes which was promptly equalized by Cian Barron for St.Josephs, before the Tour De Force of the afternoon Tom McDonald made his first impression on the scoreboard executing a free.

McDonald would then switch his attentions to turning provider as he teed up Eoghan Tynne for the games opening goal on ten minutes as the Parish began to assert their dominance at early doors forging a 1-02 to 0-01 lead.

McDonald had no intention of slowing down however as he would kick the next point from all of thirty yards, before closing out the quarter by getting involved in St.Joseph’s next goal, distributing the ball to Jack Hannon who then combined with his twin brother Tom to find the back of the net to stretch the Doora-Barefield advantage to eight.

Doora-Barefield added further points before the break through Tom Hannon and McDonald before Nicky Hardiman would too get it on the scoring act stretching their advantage to 2-06 to 0-03.

However Kilmihil would soon break the hoodoo before the half time whistle with two well dispatched goals bringing the contest back into the melting pot, first Gavin Downes found the back of Tom O’Brien’s net after a well worked team goal on twenty-nine minutes before Seán Crowley was unceremoniously bundled over in the Doora-Barefield small parallelogram allowing Cíarán Downes to cooly dispatch the resulting penalty.

At half time Doora-Barefield led by 2-06 to 2-03.

On the restart Ciarán Downes further reduced the deficit for the West Clare men before David Coughlan kicked a stupendous point to put the minimum between the sides heading into the final quarter.

St.Joseph’s netminder Tom O’Brien would then break the Kilmihil momentum when he came forward to kick a forty-five to restore their three point advantage ten minutes from time, followed by Tom McDonald claiming a  very well deserved goal of his own on twenty-three minutes when he spotted Seán Scott McCafferkey off his goal line and finished with aplomb.

St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield would hold on for a much deserved victory as it finished in Cusack Park 3-09 to 2-08.

The Result sees St.Josephs finish group two in third position and now qualifying for a quarter final play off as Kilmihil head for the relegation play offs.
