Paralympic Action Begins

The Paralympics begin in London this morning with several Irish athletes involved.

Eilish Byrne will kick off Team Ireland’s participation as she rides in the Team Test at Greenwich Park at nine.

Ellen Keane competes in the pool in the 100m Butterfly S9 Heats at the Aquatics Centre  just after 11.

At the ExCel Arena, Ronan Rooney will take part in the Men’s Singles M2 Table Tennis Preliminaries at twenty to 12.

Paracycling tandem pair James Brown and Damien Shaw will take part in the Individual Pursuit B Qualifiers  at five past 11 at the Velodrome. 

Brown is competing at his fifth Paralympic Games,

Back in the Aquatic Centre, James Scully will compete in the 50m Freestyle S5 Heats just after 11.30.

In table tennis at one o’clock  Rena McCarron Rooney and Eimear Breathnach will take part in the Women’s Singles F1-2 Preliminaries and Philip Quinlan competes in the Men’s Singles M1 Preliminaries at the ExCel Arena .

At two, Enda Smyth will compete in the individual 1Km Time Trial C1-3.
