O’Dwyer Hopeful International Rules Series Will Stay

The last Clareman to take part in the International Rules between Ireland and Australia says he would like to see it continue, despite calls locally for it to be scrapped.

Last month’s Clare GAA convention saw delegates back a motion from St. Joseph’s Miltown Malbay for the series end after it’s staged Down Under in 2015.

Their call will now go to Central Council, but Kilmurry Ibrickane clubman Odhran O’Dwyer has expressed hopes that it will continue to be supported.

O’Dwyer lined out for Ireland in 2003 and says the compromise game gave players like him a chance to get recognition outside of Clare.

Meanwhile, it’s reported that Limerick footballers are unlikely to have any representation on Munster’s Interprovincial Football Panel next month, as a result of their protest at the seeding of this year’s Munster Championship.

The Irish Examiner says the Treaty players won’t be pushing players from Clare, Waterford or Tipperary to follow suit, with all four counties boycotting the McGrath Cup.
