Clare’s hopes of promotion from Division four of the football league were ended by Limerick in Ennis on Sunday as the visitors cruised to a 1-13 to 0-10 win.
Clare trailed by two points at half time having played against a very strong wind but the game’s crucial moment came in the 54th minute when Gary Brennan won a penalty with Clare just a point behind.
However David Tubridy’s effort was saved and Limerick responded by increasing their lead with Ian Ryan’s late goal putting the contest beyond doubt.

Offaly also secured promotion from Div 4 of the league with a 2-11 to 1-8 win over Tipperary.
Mayo joined Tyrone, Dublin and Kildare in the Allianz Football League Division 1 semi-finals.
The Connacht champions edged out Cork by 11 points to 10 at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
Kerry avoided relegation thanks to a 1-16 to 2-12 win over Tyrone in Omagh.
It means All Ireland champions Donegal go down after a draw with Dublin.
Down will also play in Division 2 next season despite a 3-13 to 1-12 win over Kildare.
Dublin will play Mayo in the semi finals while Kildare will face Tyrone.
