Objections Raised About Replay Throw-In Time

The Clare County Board have requested an earlier throw-in time for the All Ireland Hurling Final replay with Cork.

The match is slated for 5:00 on Saturday September 28th, a full 90 minutes later than Sunday’s drawn encounter.

The GAA says the decision was taken following consultation with Gardai.

However, reports today say Clare want the game to start at least an hour earlier, to facilitate fans travelling home from the game, while Cork PRO Tracey Kennedy has told the Irish Examiner that she feels the planned time is ‘not ideal’.

Meanwhile, ahead of the game, former Clare All Star Jamesie O’Connor has echoed the call of his former inter-county team-mate Davy Fitzgerald in saying it’s vital the focus is on the next day out rather than last Sunday.

Offaly referee Brian Gavin has come in for some criticism after the game, with Cork Full back Shane O’Neill deemed lucky by many to have escaped a red card for a strike on Darach Honan mid-way through the first half.

The two received a yellow card for the incident, but O’Connor feels a retrospective suspension for the Corkman would just end up favouring the Rebels.
