O Connor just misses out in thrilling finish at Cheltenham

Clare’s Derek O Connor has just missed out on a Cheltenham success in a photo finsih in the 4.40 Kim Muir,losing out to Same Difference.

 
The Donald Mc Cain mount led from the off and was in a battle with Noel Glynn’s Becausueicouldntsee until the final fence  when he faded and the Tubber man was just  caught on the line by the  16/1 winner for Nigel Twiston Davies.

The Charles Byrnes trained "Solwhit" claimed an impressive victory in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle under  veteran jockey Paul Carberry

Carberry was given the job on-board "Solwhit" after leading jockey Davy Russell was involved in a heavy fall earlier in the afternoon and he’s now set to miss tomorrow’s Gold Cup action after suffering a punctured lung.

The first of today’s big races was the Ryanair Chase, which was won by "Cue Card" for the father and son team of Colin and Joe Tizzard.

Earlier, there was also an Irish victory in the opeing race of the day when the Tony Martin-trained "Bennefficient" won the Jewson Novices Chase.

The second race of the afternoon, the Pertemps Hurdle was won by " Holywell" from the Johnjo O’Neill stable.

And the the Grade 3 Byrne Group Plate went to 50-to-1 outsider "Carrickboy"
