No Joy For Clare In Kingdom Showdown

Kerry have eased into the Munster Football Final after a resounding 0-32 to 0-10 win over Clare.

Two quickfire points through an Eoin Cleary free and Pearse Lillis effort saw Clare lead by 0-2 to 0-0 after just two minutes.

Kerry struck back through Michael Burns to cut the deficit just moments later before Sean O’Shea levelled after 7 minutes.

He landed a free a minute later to send his side 0-3 to 0-2 in front, and slotted a “45 soon after to put Kerry 0-4 to 0-2 ahead after 10 minutes.

David Clifford kicked his first ever championship point to stretch the lead, before Steven O’Brien also got on the board to see Kerry lead 0-6 to 0-2.

David Tubridy arrested the slump with a classy point after a great pass from Gary Brennan but Paul Geaney landed his first of the day to leave it Kerry 0-7 Clare 0-3 after 17 minutes.

Geaney got his second to keep the Kingdom in control and when Steven O’Brien fisted another point, Kerry were 0-9 to 0-3 ahead.

James O’Donoghue was the next Kerry forward to get off the mark to take them to double digits before Micheal Burns made it Kerry 0-11 Clare 0-3.

O’Shea slotted another free to keep the scoreboard ticking over, before getting his first from play to send the Kingdom ten points clear.

O’Donoghue continued to pile the pressure on the Clare defence with another point, and O’Shea continued to dominant the scoring stakes with his fifth.

Geaney landed another before Eoin Cleary got the Banner’s first score in 20 minutes to make it Kerry 0-16 Clare 0-4 at the break.

Jamie Malone was first off the mark after the break but Steven O’Brien responded straight away for the home side.

Malone registered another soon after to leave it Kerry 0-17 Clare 0-6 after 38 minutes, only for Paul Geaney to find the target once more.

O’Donoghue landed a free and Geaney and O’Shea added scores to see the scoreline at Kerry 0-21 Clare 0-6 with 44 minutes played.

Eoin Cleary then landed a free after Jamie Malone was fouled close to the goal to leave the Banner with a 14 point deficit.

Another O’Shea free was answered in kind by David Tubridy before Barry John Keane landed a fine score after coming in off the bench.

Clifford then landed a free with Barry John Keane finding the target too to leave it Kerry 0-25 Clare 0-8 with ten minutes left to play.

Another free for O’Shea saw Kerry further clear before Eoin Cleary responded with one of his own.

Paul Geaney and Cleary then swapped points from play, and Anthony Maher then got in on the act with a fisted point to leave it Kerry 0-28 Clare 0-10 as the game ticked toward injury time.

Paul and Michael Geaney pushed Kerry to the 30 point mark, and further scores from Darran O’Sullivan and Barry John Keane saw the Kingdom 0-32 to 0-10 winners.
