Newmarket have claimed their first scalp of the Clare Senior Hurling Championship for 2022 following a convincing nine point victory over Whitegate at Dr.Daly Park Tulla
The Blues determined to banish the ghosts of defeat to their neighbours in Cusack Park last week started brightest with Liam Clancy pointing in the opening stages. Colin Ryan and Colin Guilfoyle combined to stretch the lead until Conor Whelan capitalized on a defensive error for Whitegate’s first score of the day.
On fifteen minutes the sides were level at four points a piece each before Whitegate claimed the next two scores through Paul Burke and their largest winning margin of the day. However Peter Power and Liam Clancy responded in kind and the sides went in deadlocked at 0-07 to 0-07 at the break.
Newmarket lost their shackles in the second period and playing with a new freedom began to stamp their dominance.
The introduction of Eoin Hayes in the bench as well as scores from Colin Ryan ,Peter Power and Eanna Crimmins complemented by strong defensive displays from Jack Enright and Colin Guilfoyle ensured a comfortable victory for the Newmarket men as it finished double scores in Dr.Daly park at Newmarket 0-18 to Whitegate 0-09
