Newmarket Celtic look set to be crowned Clare Premier Division League champions this evening, but not on the field.
Newmarket were due to play Hermitage at the Fairgreen on Wednesday evening, needing just a point to secure a first league title since 2012.
However, Clare FM understands their opponents will inform league officials in writing that they will not be fulfilling the fixture, with Newmarket set to be granted all three points from a walkover.
The executive of the league are due to meet this evening, with the walkover expected to be officially granted, and Newmarket to be crowned champions.
It's understood they will receive the trophy after their final home game of the season against Ennis Town on Wednesday May 20th.
