Newmarket on Fergus have dismissed any notion that the burden of history could weigh the side down in Sunday’s County Hurling Final against Cratloe.
Newmarket are the most successful side in Championship history, having been crowned champions on 22 separate occasions, but have waited 31 years since they last lifted the Canon Hamilton.
Despite this, member of the backroom team Tom McNamara has rejected any suggestion that this is a factor in Sunday’s clash at Cusack Park
Meanwhile, the Cratloe camp are hoping that their players’ past success will spur them onto championship glory.
While many of the south-East Clare side’s players collected county medals in 2009, some have also been part of Clare’s All Ireland Under 21 winning panel and the county’s senior set-up.
Selector Ronan O’Reilly is confident this will stand to them on Sunday
Clare FM’s live coverage of this Sundays County senior hurling final comes in association with Banner Carpets and Flooring Quinn Road business park, Ennis.
