Newmarket Celtic rounded off their incredible 2022/23 season in style on Saturday evening following a dramatic league playoff victory over Avenue United.
Avenue’s Nnabuike Nneji seemed to put the defending league champions on course to retain their domestic crown upon opening the scoring after eight minutes.
However a 37th minute strike from Celtic frontman, Darragh Leahy, followed by a Harvey Cullinan penalty on the cusp of half-time saw Newmarket overturn the deficit to lead by 2-1.
Paddy Purcell’s charges would ultimately defend that lead all the way to the final whistle to round off a historic season as FAI Junior Cup Champions for the first time, while becoming kingpins of the Clare Premier Division for the 20th occasion.
