Garbine Muguruza is the new Wimbledon ladies’ singles champion.
The Venezuelan-born Spaniard beat five-time winner Venus Williams 7-5, 6-love in the final under the roof on Centre Court.
Williams had two set points in the first set – but Muguruza held, broke immediately, and then took control.
It means at 37, Williams has missed out on becoming the oldest woman to win a grand slam singles title in the open era.
