Fulham took the lead in the first half through Steve Sidwell and, despite having the vast majority of possession and chances, United struggled to break Fulham down.
Two goals in a minute, however, in the final quarter, from Robin van Persie and Michael Carrick, looked to have given United the 3 points.
But Darren Bent scored for Fulham in injury time to claim a point for the bottom side, as the game finished 2-all.
Earlier, Emmanuel Adebayor scored the only goal of the game as Tottenham beat Everton 1-0, leap-frogging them into fifth place.
