Clare boxer Rosaleen Mongan from the Kilfenora Club captured the 52 Kg Girls title at the Irish Schoolgirls Championships in the National Stadium in Dublin last night.
Rosaleen is one of a very strong stable of boxers from the North Clare club and she proved much too strong for Leinster Champion Rachel Fallon from the Paulstownclub in Kilkenny , forcing the referee to stop the contest after just one minute of the first round.
The youngster who only started boxing last year endorsed the confidence of coach Robert Cassidy , and it is hoped that she will participate in the Doolin BC tournament in the Pavilion in Lisdoonvarna this evening . Rosaleen has been matched with Ennis BC boxer Keisha Attwell in a bout that will attract much attention on a bill which includes Heavyweight Martin Mongan from Ennis – the newly crowned Irish Youths Champion.
The bill tonight will feature local youngsters Keith Barry and Callum McNamara , with Munster Champion Killian Blood and Cal Connolly who is an exciting prospect . tonights bill will feature fourteen contests and will get under way at 8pm.
