Clare joint hurling manager Donal Moloney says the door remains open for Colin Ryan to return to the panel later in the season.

The Newmarket man announced he is taking an extended break from intercounty action, having made his senior debut in 2007.

He's one of a number of players who are unavailable for Sunday's Munster Hurling League opener against Kerry, as the Banner begin life under the leadership of Moloney & Gerry O'Connor.

Moloney says he feels Ryan still has plenty left to offer

Meanwhile the management will wait until close to throw in before finalising a team for the meeting with Kerry, with a largely experimental side set to feature.

It gets underway on Sunday in Austin Stack Park Tralee at 2pm, live online commentary on www.clare.fm and updates on air.
