Mixed Fortunes For College Outfits

There were mixed fortunes for college sides taking on the inter-county teams in the Waterford Crystal Cup Preliminary Round.

Davy Fitzgerald’s LIT were heavily beaten by Tipperary 3-20 to 0-05, but UL, managed by Brian Lohan, came from behind to beat Waterford 1-11 to 0-10.

UL now meet Waterford IT in the Quarter finals, while Tipperary will meet Kerry. Clare will play Limerick who hammered IT Tralee on Friday.

In football’s McGrath Cup Cork and Kerry will contest the final next weekend after wins over UL and Cork IT respectively.

Boycotting sides Clare and Limerick continued their league preparations with a challenge game in Meelick, with the Treatymen winning 1-11 to 1-08.

Among the results elsewhere, All-Ireland Champions Dublin were knocked out of the O’Byrne Cup, losing to DCU on a score line of 3-8 to 0-16.

In the McKenna Cup, there were wins for Donegal, Derry and Cavan while in the FBD Connacht League, there was a shock as Leitrim beat Galway by 1-10 to 2-06. Mayo and IT Sligo drew 2-08 to 1-11.
