The Champions make it two wins from two in the Clare Senior Football Championship as Paul Madden’s side have firmly laid down the gauntlet following a dominant victory over St.Joseph’s Miltown Malbay in Kilmihil.
The sides treated the capacity crowd in St.Michael’s Park to an enthralling show in the opening thirty minutes. The Champions raced into a three point lead by the ten minute mark with all scores accredited to Captain Gavin Cooney.
Cormac Murray would respond with two in a row for Miltown Malbay and would go on to rack up a total of four points in the opening period whilst being ably assisted by contributions from Micheál Murray, Aidan McGuane and a strike from County star Eoin Cleary which was greeted with rapturous applause from the stands.
However it was the deadly inside line of Mark McInerney and Philip Talty coupled with precision playmaking from Niall McMahon and Ciarán Russell further afield providing Mark opportunities for Captain Cooney which edged the Townie’s noses in front at the break on a scoreline of Eire Óg 0-09 to St.Joseph Miltown’s 0-07.
Aidan McGuane reduced the arrears for St.Joseph’s on the restart, however the Eire Óg response would be the turning point of this fixture , points from Darren O’Neill and Gavin Cooney , failed to raise reactions out of the ordinary, but it was Mark McInerney’s goal on forty – eight minutes that provided the catalyst for the floodgates to open for the champions.
McInerney would add two more majors in a row with the latter a selfless team goal involving Ikem Ugwerru and Danny Griffin and despite Miltown rallying to claim the last four points in a row from the boots of Cleary brothers Eoin & Conor, it would have little effect on the final outcome.
It finished in St.Michael’s Park Eire Óg 3-11 to St.Joseph’s Miltown 0-13
