Conor McGregor became the UFC interim featherweight champion overnight after beating Chad Mendes in Las Vegas.

After being taken down 4 times by the American, McGregor recovered to win the bout by TKO in Round 2.
The victory now tees up a unification fight between the Irishman and Jose Aldo which will also take place in Vegas.
The 2nd of January is the date being mooted.
Elsewhere at UFC 189, fellow Dublinmen Cathal Pendred and Neil Seery were both beaten in the event's undercards.
