McDermott expresses disappointed after first hurdle knock-out

 

Clare have been knocked out of the Munster football  championship at the first hurdle after losing to Cork by 1-23 to 0-11 points in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Clare trailed at the break by 1-9 to 0-04 but never troubled the All Ireland champions who goaled in the opening half from Donnacha O Connor and the visitors also ended the game with 14 men after Graham Kelly was sent off for two yellow cards.

Clare manager Michael McDermott told Clare Fm he was left hugely dispapointed with his side’s performance:

– Kerry also booked their place in the  last-four of Munster  after a 2-16  to 0-11 (victory over Tipperary in Killarney – despite playing the second-half with 14 men.

– In Leinster, Laois survived a late fight-back from Longford at O’Moore Park to clinch a narrow 10 points to 9 victory in their first-round clash.

– Kildare also advanced after a 12 points to 5 victory over 14-man Wicklow.

– The biggest shock of the day was in Markievicz Park where Leitrim upset their hosts Sligo by 1-10  to 0-10  Sligo finished

– In the first of this year’s Ulster quarter-finals, Derry enjoyed a convincing 1-17 to 1-10 win over Fermanagh.

Eire Og win over Kilrush

In ladies football news and Eire Og defeated Kilrush last evening in the county U16 C final in Kilmihil by 7-8 to 2-2.

Div. 1 League Crusheen had a  3-7 to 1-08 victory over  Fergus Rovers  and in the Under 14 Championship 1st  Round 1 Fergus Rovers saw off Burren Gaels  6-11-  3-5
