Mc Illroy on top at St Andrews

Rory McIlroy hit a record-equalling opening round for a major to take charge of the 2010 Open Championship.

The 21-year-old Northern Ireland star took advantage of perfect playing conditions to score a remarkable nine-under par 63 that has given him a three-shot lead.

John Daly, Andrew Coltart and Louis Oosthuizen are tied for second on six under, with Tiger Woods also well-placed after his opening round on five under par.
