Liverpol beat champions 2-0 at Anfield

 

Liverpool continue to show signs of recovery after ending Chelsea’s unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Fernando Torres scored a brilliant first-half brace as the Reds ran the league leaders ragged at Anfield.

Fellow Spaniard, Pepe Reina (pr: Ray-na) also pulled-off a number of second-half saves as the home-side held-off a second-half fight-back from the Blues to claim a two-nil win.

Arsenal failed to capitalise on Chelsea’s slip-up after a one-nil defeat to Newcastle at the Emirates.

The Magpies are up to fifth place in the table after Andy Carroll’s powerful header in first-half stoppage time was enough to hand them an entertaining victory.

Manchester City are now level on points with Arsenal after a two-nil win over West Brom.

City are back up to fourth after two goals in the first-half from Mario Balotelli (pr: Bal-oh-telly), who was later sent-off for two yellow cards.

Elsewhere, Swansea upset their local rivals Cardiff by a goal to nil in the nPower Championship.

And in the SPL, Rangers beat St Mirren by three goals to one to return to the top of the table, while Hearts beat Hibs by two goals to nil.
