Clare’s Senior Football Championship campaign has ended following defeat to Armagh this afternoon.
Colm Collins’ side lost a three point lead with five minutes left on the clock to end the game 2-16 to 1-15 in favour of the home side.
Armagh took an early lead but Clare found form and turned things around to take a 0-9 to 0-7 lead at half time.
Clare scored four unanswered points in the second half until Armagh’s Andrew Murnin struck the back of the Clare net to keep the Banner in check.
With the sides tied approaching full time, Eimhin Courtney was pulled down in front of the Armagh goals and David Tubridy buried the resulting penalty to leave them with a four point lead with five minutes of normal time left on the clock.
However, Armagh equalised with a goal of their own and a shocked Clare side struggled to arrest the string of points scored to extend their deficit.
Full time score in the Athletic Grounds was Clare 1-15, Armagh 2-16.
