The opening round of the 2016 series produced some shock results.

Sixmilebridge, Cratloe and Newmarket on Fergus are all in the last chance saloon of the 2016 Clare Senior Hurling Championship after the weekends action.

The Bridge saw their 20 game unbeaten run come to an end at the hands of Crusheen, while Cratloe were turned over by Feakle.

Newmarket were beaten by a last minute goal against Wolfe Tones.

Clonlara are safely into the winners round after they edged past Kilmaley, while it took extra time before Eire Óg battled past Ballyea.

Clooney/Quin got the better of Inagh/Kilnamona, O'Callaghans Mills beat Whitegate while Clarecastle were the first through to Round 2 after beating Tulla.

The eight winners will now play off for a quarter final spot, with the losers facing each other for a chance to get back into the race for the Canon.

No details of that draw or dates for the second round are yet known.
