Killaloe’s Anthony Foley is to work with the Ireland squad as part of a shake-up of the national coaching ticket.
Foley, who will also retain his role with Munster’s backroom staff, has been named defence coach for the national side ahead of the November internationals against South Africa, Fiji and Argentina.
Assistant coach Les Kiss will now concentrate on attack.
The squad for the games has been announced this afternoon, with head coach Declan Kidney naming four uncapped players.
Munster prop David Kilcoyne and Ulster players Iain Henderson and Luke Marshall have been named alongside Leinster hooker Richardt Strauss, after he became available under residency laws
Otherwise, there are few surprises, thought despite injury concerns Ronan O’Gara could also feature at out half.
Rob Kearney is not considered due to injury, while Ulster’s Paddy Wallace is the highest profile omission.
