He may have been last year's hurler of the year, but Clare's Tony Kelly says the competition for places in Davy Fitzgerald's starting fifteen has heated up ahead of the Championship.
Clare's Munster semi-final against Cork or Waterford is slated for June 15th, while Kelly will also be part of the county Under-21 side who take on Limerick next Wednesday.
Several members of the Under-21 team that lifted last year's All-Ireland and Munster titles are now part of the senior squad this year, and the Ballyea man says this is keeping players on their toes.
Meanwhile, Dublin will meet Carlow or Westmeath in the Bord Gais energy Leinster under 21 semi-final following last night’s seven point win over Laois.
1-17 to 1-10 was the final score in Parnell Park, although there was only one point in it at half time.
