Ireland To Play In New Europe-Wide Competition

UEFA's approved the creation of a "Nations League" competition to start in September 2018.

It'll replace most international friendlies, and feed into qualifying play-offs for the 2020 Euro Championship.

Although the tournament format is yet to be finalised, it foresees 54 teams ranked in four divisions playing September to November 2018.

Twelve top-ranked sides would play in four three-team groups in Division A.

Those group winners advance to a finals tournament to be held in the summer.
