Ireland In The Medals At European Indoors

Ciaran O Lionaird has won a bronze medal in the 3,000 metres at the European Indoor Championships. 

The Corkman ran a controlled race and finished in a personal best of 7 minutes 50.40 seconds to claim Ireland’s first medal in Sweden.

Earlier on there was disappointment for Brian Gregan in the semi finals of the 400 metres.

He was clipped towards the end of the first lap and then suffered an injury and he had to be stretchered off.

Ciara Everard came third in her 800 metres semi final to book a place in tomorrows final.

Rose-Anne Galligan finished fifth in the first semi final so missed out on a place in the final despite a personal best of 2 minutes 2.84 seconds.

Fionnuala Britton secured a place in the women’s 3,000 metres final with a third place finish in her heat while Amy Foster advanced to the semi finals of the 60 metres as one of the fatest losers.
