It took a strong second-half performance for the Banner, led for the first time by Donal Moloney and Gerry O'Connor, to record a 12 point win over Kerry in Tralee.
Debutant Kevin Hehir and Podge Collins scored goals in either half as the Banner won 2-24 to 1-15.
Clare now face Limerick this Wednesday in Sixmilebridge, and will go into that game with injuries.
