Clare captured a last gasp point to share the spoils with Galway, in round 5 of the National Hurling league, and the final round of games in this campaign.
It finished 18 points to 1-15 in a thrilling finish in Cusack Park this afternoon.
Davy Fitzgeralds side went down to fourteen men five minutes before the half time whistle when Shane Golden was hit with a second yellow card. At the break the Tribesemen led 0-09 to 0-08, seven Tony Kelly pointed frees and one point from David Reidy the only score from play in the opening half for the banner men.
Galways goal came through Cathal Mannion in the 52nd minute putting the visitors 1-11 to 0-12 ahead, but the banner men stayed in touch with All Star substitute Conor McGrath contributing three points after his introduction.
Patrick Kelly also carried off some fine saves in the second half at crucial stages, Tony Kelly added six more points of his own, while sub Colin Ryan hit two placed balls one of which the equaliser.
Today’s result means the All Ireland champions finished top of the group and will take on Laois in next weeks Quarter finals.
Both sides have played three home ties and so there will be a toss tomorrow afternoon to decide next weeks venue.
Tipperary are also into the league quarter finals, after they beat Anthony Dalys Dublin by 1-19 to 19 points at Semple Stadium.
Kilkenny are also through after they thrashed Waterford by 4-22 to 14 points at Nowlan Park.
In Division 1B, Cork have been promoted to the top division, after they beat Wexford at Pairc Ui Rinn by 2-23 to 1-20.
Elsewhere, Limerick overcame Laois by 1-17 to 1-13 late on at O'Moore Park in Portlaoise.
