Several hundred people have attended the first public memorial service for former New Zealand rugby union winger Jonah Lomu.

It was held at the south-Auckland Methodist church his family often attended when he was a child.
Many of the congregation wore a traditional Tongan woven skirt to show respect to the All Blacks legend.
The 40-year-old died on Wednesday from cardiac arrest around 20-years after being diagnosed with a rare kidney disease.
