Newmarket Celtic will remain top of the Clare Premier Divison Table heading into Christmas following a 2-2 All draw with Avenue United at McDonough Park.
The defending champions raced into a one nil lead after twenty-six minutes when a deflected delivery into the Newmarket penalty area hit Avenue United’s Conor Hehir before ricocheting of a Newmarket defender and settling in the net.
Shortly after the restart, the Cherries doubled their advantage when new addition to the squad Na unleashed a superb half volley strike on fifty-one minutes to put the visitors 2-0 in front.
However the nineteen time champions refused to lie down on their home turf and replied with their first of the day just three minutes later when a Darren Callinan corner kick took a deflection on its way to the back of the Avenue net.
Just fifteen minutes later, Newmarket Celtic midfielder David McCarthy would have the same fortune from a well struck free kick as the hosts ensured a share of the spoils.
Although Newmarket Celtic’s winning run has come to an end, they remain undefeated at the top of the Premier Division table after seven games with nineteen points while Avenue United sit closely behind on sixteen points.
