Derval O’Rourke has had to settle for an agonising fourth place in the 60m hurdles of the European Indoor Championships.
The 2006 world champion was beaten for a place on the podium by the narrowest of margins.
O’Rourke’s seasonal best time of 7.95 seconds was just a one hundreth of a second outside of the silver and bronze placings. But it was Nevin Yanit (pr: Nevin Yann-ett) of Turkey took gold in a time of 7.89 seconds.
Day two has seen a good start for the Irish.
Fionnuala Britton finished third in her heat to book a place in the women’s 3,000 metres final.
The double European cross country champion came home in a time of 9 minutes 3.03 seconds.
