A senior member of the Clare panel says the four ‘weaker’ counties of Munster came very close to pulling out of next year’s Munster Football Championship.

Clare, Limerick, Waterford and Tipperary will take part in the competition, despite strong grievences with the re-introduction of the seeded draw.

However, the GPA released a statement last night saying the squads of the various counties have withdrawn from next year’s McGrath Cup and say they won’t play in the 2015 Championship if the seeded system is not reversed.

Lissycasey goalkeeper Joe Hayes has been one of the Clare players most involved in behind-the-scenes negotiations, which he says continued until the 11th hour.
