Clare Handball Notes (week ending 22nd September 2019)

Leah Minogue and Chloe Philpott

Brennan overcomes Philpott in Titanic Tie

In the 60 x 30 Juvenile Girls U16 Singles All-Ireland Semi-Final, Kilkishen’s Chloe Philpott was in action against Kilkenny’s Amy Brennan. Both are rising stars of handball and they renewed their rivalry on Sunday, September 22nd in Broadford, Co. Limerick.

In all previous meetings there has been very little to separate both players and it was clear from the start of this game that this pattern would continue. Chloe started extremely well but she was well matched by Kilkenny’s Amy Brennan.

The Kilkishen native took the first game 21-17 but Brennan countered in the second, to win a game that was in the balance throughout 21-19. In the tiebreaker both players had to dig deep, but it was the Kilkenny player who took the spoils winning, 17-21,21-19, 11-6.

Although Chloe may feel disappointed she will now focus her sights on representing her school, St Joseph’s, Tulla, in the Clare Colleges Girls Intermediate Final, where she will play against Leah Minogue (Scarriff CC).

The Clare Handball Leagues Begin

The 2019 Clare Handball Club season begins this week with Division Two action in Tuamgraney, Kilkishen and Clooney. Over recent years Clare handballers have excelled at national championships, in recognition of this the Clare County Board has made a number of key changes to this year’s league format.

There will be three Divisions involved, to cater for all adult players from beginner level through to elite level. Across all three leagues teams are reduced from six members down to four which should make for faster, more competitive games.

All are welcome to attend, admission is free and if you’d like to play contact your local club or Clare Handball for further details
