Galway's bid to move to the Munster Championship is one step closer.

A motion from the Liam Mellows club to withdraw from the Leinster championship under their current agreement has been carried at last night's county convention.

The club says they want an equivalent Tier one competition in which they can enter their minor and under 21 sides and also play senior games at home.

A motion could be put before congress next February, and new Galway GAA chairman Pat Kearney says they will be looking to push it through
