Limerick didn’t just beat Clare!  They were a couple of gears ahead throughout the 70 minutes – 11 different scorers for the Shannonsiders, 4 points from play for Clare.

The tone was set from the start as Limerick raced into a 0-6 to 0-1 lead – Aaron Gillane got three scores, Kyle Hayes, Gearoid Hegarty and Declan Hannon all found the target.

Peter Duggan was Clare’s sole scorer and would stay the same at half-time as the Banner trailed 0-15 to 0-7.  The Clooney/Quin forward’s point from play on 30 minutes was Clare’s first from play.

Aaron Gillane opened the second half scoring before Tony Kelly and Peter Duggan hit back for Clare leaving it 0-16 to 0-9 on 43 minutes.  But the All-Ireland champions hit another six to Clare’s one.

And after an excellent Peter Duggan sideline left it 0-22 to 0-11 with 15 minutes remaining, Aaron Gillane perfectly took a long delivery to score Limerick’s goal and wrap it up.

Colm Galvin and Peter Duggan concluded Clare’s account but Limerick were scoring at will and produced an 18-point victory.

Quite simply, Clare need Limerick to get a result against Tipperary next week.  If not, only a 22-point winning margin over Cork will save their season.
