Fresh Banner Side Finish Round Robin Campaign in Style

A Clare side that made 6 changes going into their clash with a Waterford side needing a win to progress to the knockout stages would have left most punters expecting a close encounter in Cusack Park.

From the off however it was clear this fresh Clare side were not here to make excuses but to relish their opportunity. This was personified from a David Reidy who just returning from injury opened the scoring and was exemplary throughout the 70 minutes.

After just 8 minutes the sides shared 10 scores. Favouring the Banner county by 8 points to 2.

The first Clare goal came in the 24th minute when the aforementioned Reidy finished off a brilliant team move to bury the sliotar in the back of Seán Ó Brien’s net. Scores from David McInerney , Peter Duggan and a David Fitzgerald goal just before the break left Clare with a half – time advantage of 2-15 to Waterford’s 9 Points.

Fitz added a second goal on the restart before Dessie Hutchinson who proved a constant thorn in Clare’s side finished a 21 metre free to the back of Eibhear Quilligan’s Net.

However this did little to offer Waterford any consolation as the Banner damage had already been inflicted.

Man of the match Shane O’Donnell scored his second off the day before Clare boss Brian Lohan rang the changes.

With Inagh Kilnamona’s Eamon Foudy, Feakle’s Adam Hogan and Wolfetone’s Darragh Lohan all making their Senior Championship debuts from the bench.

Patrick Curran would add a late goal for Waterford to add some gloss to the score line finishing 3-31 to 2-22.

The 12 point victory means Clare finish atop the Munster Round Robin standings and will eagerly anticipate their Munster final date with Limerick on June 5th
