Former Galway Hurling Manager Hits Back At Ger Loughnane Criticism

A former Galway hurling manager has hit back at Ger Loughnane's criticism of the Tribesmen, ahead of Sunday's clash with Clare.

The Feakle native, who has managed both counties, courted controversy when he called Galway 'gutless' in the wake of their poor second half performance in the Leinster Final against Kilkenny.

Gort man Mattie Murphy, who managed Galway in two separate stints during the 1990s, thinks the Galway players will brush off the criticism.

In an interview to be broadcast on Clare FM's Sideline View this evening, Murphy said Loughnane, as a media pundit, "likes to be controversial".

Meanwhile, a Clare senior hurling selector says his side need to be wary of Galway ahead of Sunday's match.

Clare go into the game knowing they're one win away from returning to Croke Park for a first All-Ireland semi-final in three years.

Galway will be led by Joe Canning, their top scorer in this year's Championship.

However, Louis Mulqueen insists their opponents are more than a one-man team.
