The incorporation of dual clubs, using underage coaches from across the county  and getting Clare players performing at 3rd level were just some of the issues raised at last Night’s Clare football forum

The meeting which was attended by club chairmen and secretaries was also told that four football coaches will be appointed in the coming weeks  and that Donegal and Tipperary are counties that Clare need to examine.

Clare county board chairman Michale O Neill last night told the football forum that it "was time to deal with reality" in relation to football in the county.

His comments came in the middle of a meeting which was called to explore  the future for football in Clare after Michael Mc Dermott’s reign came to end earlier this month.

Gabriel Keating of Naomh Eoin suggested that three players from the 1992 Munster winning side along with a player from the 1960’s,70’s and 80’s be asked to seek a new county manager while Doonbeg’s Michael Neenan sought the appointment of an overall director of football within the county.

The issue of Clare player’s not performing on Sigerson or Trench cup sides was also raised while Eamon Finucane of Lissycasey felt that there was enough good underage coaches in the county that could be used at county level

Michael O Neill also told the meeting that the dual club issue needed to be addressed as it their colume had increased significantly over the past 15 years and Clare should look to Donegal and Tipperay for ideas on how to improve.

All of the suggestions and debate from last night will be emailed to clubs with Monday’s county board meeting set to decide on the process for finding a new county football manger.
