Staying with hurling the race for Canon Hamilton heats up this weekend as the final round of group games takes place in the county championship
While the make-up of the last eight teams will be decided, it’s also a key weekend for teams seeking to avoid the dreaded relegation.
Three of the eight spots in the Quarter Finals of the Clare Senior Hurling Championship will be decided in this weekend’s final round of action.
Already through are the champions of the last three years – Crusheen, Cratloe, and Clonlara – and also Sixmilebridge and Tulla from Group 3.
On Saturday, Broadford will seal their spot in the last eight if they beat Group 1 rivals Killanena, but if they fail to do so that might allow St. Joseph’s Doora-Barefield reach the last eight, should they overcome Smith O’Briens.
The other game on Saturday is the meeting of Scariff and Whitegate.
Sunday’s big game is the winner-takes-all clash of Inagh Kilnamona and Tubber in Group 2 – the winners will join Cratloe in the next round.
The other key action takes place in Group 4, and is headlined by the clash of Ballyea and Kilmaley at Cusack Park.
A win for Kilmaley will see them through but should they slip up, then Newmarket-on-Fergus could sneak in with a win over Clooney-Quin.
The other games see Tulla face Wolfe Tones and Clarecastle take on O’Callaghans Mills.
